Run ASSESSMENT IN TORONTO

A full analysis of how you run - using treadmill video, functional screening, and clinical expertise to understand your movement, reduce injury risk, and help you run better.

What is a run assessment?

More than just watching you run

A run assessment at Plus Ultra is a clinical service that combines functional strength screening with real-time treadmill video analysis. We look at how your body moves, not just your feet, but your hips, pelvis, trunk, and the way force is absorbed and generated across your whole stride.

We assess your run and capture video footage of it. This is then reviewed alongside your screening results to build a complete picture of your mechanics, identify any red flags, and guide your rehab or training accordingly.

Whether you're dealing with a recurring injury, preparing for a race, or simply want to understand your running better, this assessment gives you and your clinician a clear, evidence-informed starting point.

How it works

What's Included

Every run assessment follows the same three-part process — each step connects to the next so we always see the full picture.

01

Functional Screening

A series of movement tests that look at your strength, coordination, and control before you get on the treadmill. This helps us understand what your body is working with — and pick up on anything that might be contributing to pain or holding your running back.

02

Treadmill Run Analysis

You run at your own comfortable pace while we film from the back and side. We look at how you actually move — how your foot lands, how your hips and pelvis behave, your knee tracking, your push-off, and whether your form changes as you fatigue.

03

Clinical Debrief

We go through everything we found and explain it in plain terms. You'll leave knowing what we saw, why it matters, and what the next step is — whether that's specific exercises, a technique adjustment, a training plan, or hands-on treatment.

Who This Assessment Is For

A run assessment is appropriate for anyone who runs — from recreational joggers to competitive athletes. You don't need to be injured to benefit from it.

  • Runners dealing with recurring injuries — shin splints, knee pain, IT band, Achilles, or plantar fasciitis that keeps coming back
  • Runners who want to improve performance and running economy ahead of a race or training block
  • Athletes returning from injury who want a clear, informed starting point before building their running back up
  • New runners who want to build good habits from the start and reduce the risk of early injury
  • Anyone who has been told their form is off and wants to understand what that actually means
  • Runners who have plateaued in training and want to know whether mechanics are a limiting factor

Frequently Asked Questions

Have a question that isn't covered here? Call us at (289) 205-2930 or book a consultation.

  • Not at all. Many of our run assessments are performance-focused rather than injury-driven. Runners preparing for a race, athletes returning to running, or anyone who simply wants to understand their mechanics better are all great candidates. Identifying movement patterns before they become injuries is one of the most valuable uses of this service.

  • Wear your usual running gear — shorts or leggings and your current running shoes. If you have more than one pair of shoes you run in, let us know and we can discuss which to use. You don't need to bring anything else.

  • Plan for approximately 60 minutes. This includes the treadmill warm-up and recording, functional strength screens, and a debrief where we walk you through the key findings and what they mean for your training or rehab. You'll leave with a clear understanding of your mechanics and a plan to address any findings.

  • Findings are reviewed with you at the end of the session. Depending on what we find, recommendations may include specific strength or drill work tied to the 5 pillars of running, adjustments to training load or footwear, targeted physiotherapy or chiropractic treatment, or a return-to-run programme if you are recovering from injury. The assessment is a starting point, not a one-off event.

  • Yes. You don't need to have seen us before. A run assessment is a standalone service. If it turns out you'd benefit from ongoing treatment or rehabilitation as a result of what we find, we can discuss that as part of the debrief and help you decide on next steps.

  • Run assessments at Plus Ultra are conducted by our clinicians with specific training in running biomechanics and gait analysis. This may be a Massage Therapist, Chiropractor, Physiotherapist, or Athletic Therapist.
